Alice Montacute, 5th Countess of Salisbury

Alice Montacute was an English noblewoman who held the titles of 5th Countess of Salisbury, 6th Baroness Monthermer, and 7th and 4th Baroness Montagu after succeeding to the titles in 1428. Her husband, Richard Neville, became the 5th Earl of Salisbury through his marriage to Alice. The family’s principal seat was at Bisham Manor in Berkshire, with lands primarily around Christchurch in Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Alice was the daughter of Thomas Montagu, 4th Earl of Salisbury, and Eleanor Holland. She married Richard Neville in 1420, and upon her father’s death in 1428, she was styled as Countess of Salisbury. Alice Montacute died before 9 December 1462 and was interred in the Montagu Mausoleum at Bisham Abbey.
