Alice Holland, Countess of Kent

Alice FitzAlan was born circa 1350 at Arundel Castle in Sussex, England, as the second daughter of Richard Fitzalan, 3rd Earl of Arundel, and Eleanor of Lancaster. She was initially betrothed to Edmund Mortimer at the age of four, but the marriage did not occur. Instead, she married Thomas Holland, 2nd Earl of Kent, on 10 April 1364, receiving a marriage portion of 4,000 marks from her father.

Upon her marriage, Alice was styled Lady Holland and became Countess of Kent in 1381 when her husband succeeded his father. She was appointed a Lady of the Garter in 1388. Alice and Thomas had ten children, including Thomas Holland, 1st Duke of Surrey, and Margaret Holland, Duchess of Clarence.

Alice's husband died on 25 April 1397. She passed away on 17 March 1416 at the age of sixty-six and was buried at Wells Cathedral. Her son Thomas succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Kent but was executed in 1400 for his role in the Epiphany Rising.
