Alice Haute, Lady Fogge

Alice Haute, Lady Fogge, was an English noblewoman born around 1444 in Kent, England. She was the daughter of William Haute, an English politician, and Joan Wydeville, and was thus a first cousin to Queen Elizabeth Woodville. As a lady-in-waiting to the queen during the 1460s, Alice was a part of the royal court. In about 1458, she married Sir John Fogge, an English courtier and soldier with ties to the Woodvilles. Their union brought the Haute manor of Ashenfield in Waltham into the Fogge family. Alice and Sir John Fogge had a son, Thomas, and three daughters, Anne, Elizabeth, and Margaret, with a possible fourth daughter, Joan, mentioned in family chronicles. Alice Haute passed away in August 1512 and was buried at Ashford, St Mary's church, alongside her husband and his first wife. A sketch of their memorial brasses remains as a testament to their once-prominent tomb.
