Prince Alexander

Alexander of Scotland was born on 21 January 1264 as the second child and elder son of King Alexander III of Scotland and Margaret of England. He had an older sister named Margaret and a younger brother named David. In 1270, Alexander was appointed Earl of Fife during the minority of Duncan III, and later became Lord of Mann, which provided him with revenue and a dignified position.

In 1281, after the death of his brother David, Alexander became the sole surviving son of King Alexander III. That same year, his sister Margaret married King Eric II of Norway. Alexander married Margaret of Flanders on 14 November 1282 at Roxburgh, with the marriage celebrations continuing the following day.

Alexander died on 28 January 1284, a week after his twentieth birthday, and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. With his death, his niece Margaret, Maid of Norway, became the new heir presumptive.
