Born as Gerloc and baptised in Rouen as Adela in 912, she was the progeny of Rollo, Count of Rouen, and his consort, Poppa of Bayeux. Adela, who was also the sibling of William I Longsword, entered into matrimony with William Towhead, the prospective Count of Poitou and Duke of Aquitaine, in the year 935. Her lineage was continued through two offspring before her demise on 14 October 962.
